"Memories of Bonnie Doon: Our Stories, Our History" is a 236 page commemorative history book, detailing the history of Bonnie Doon, Edmonton, through stories, photos and memories from over 100 individuals and families who have lived in Bonnie Doon. It's publication in March 2019 ties in with Bonnie Doon Community League's Centennial, as we celebrate our 100th birthday.
Memories of Bonnie Doon will appeal to anyone with a connection to the Bonnie Doon neighbourhood of Edmonton. Seniors will enjoy the opportunity to look back and newcomers will have a glimpse of the past. The book starts with the earliest history of First Nations then Metis families and concludes with Bonnie Doon today. Rutherford School opened in 1911 and is still in operation today! Learn about the Highland Park Greenhouse operated by Charles and Augustine Juchli, Percy's Felties pennant and crest business, and the early years of the Oblates at College St. Jean. Important local features, Molstad House, The Edmonton Ski Club, Bonnie Doon Streetcar, Mill Creek Ravine and the Dawson Huts are all included. Many families have donated photos and other images have been obtained from archives.
Strathcona Historian Tom Monto wrote the book's content, compiling the stories and added the historical background. Bonnie Doon's Astrid Blodget, editor, and Craig Pinder, layout and design, worked diligently to create an engaging story.
