Is the answer you need not on this page? It might be on our main rink page. If you still need an answer, please write to info@bonniedoon.ca. It may take a few days for our volunteers to gather the information you need.
Hockey games & other violations of provincial health guidelines
Please call 311 if you see people violating health guidelines. 311 operates from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, seven days a week except statutory holiday. We would also appreciate hearing about infractions and what 311 told you. Write to info@bonniedoon.ca. The league is not responsible for enforcing health guidelines.
Maximum number of skaters?
As of December 29, 2020, BDCL has set the maximum at 10. The province allows more skaters for our size of rink, but our experience is that a higher number encourages groups of hockey players to come to the rink to play hockey. Playing hockey is strictly forbidden by the province.
Family Skate times?
Many kinds of skaters use the rink, parents teaching a four-year-old, a 15-yo or a 50-yo learning to skate, etc. We reserve a limited number of hours for Family Skate times, when hockey sticks are not allowed. As of December 30, 2020, we are discussing what are the best times for Family Skate. Please write to Mark at abundant@bonniedoon.ca if you are willing to spend an hour once a week during January, 2021 encouraging skaters to respect Family Skate times.
Why can't i use my stick if I'm the only skater during Family Skate?
People who arrive at the rink wanting to take advantage of Family Skate and see skaters with sticks assume the No Sticks rule is not being enforced and go home.
Washrooms closed?!
We do not have enough volunteers to keep washrooms sanitized. Also, to make our washrooms available we would have to unlock the rink shack, leading to groups of people sharing the space to change into & out of skates. That is unsafe during a pandemic.
Second rink?
We made a second rink in the winter of 2018/2019, too small to be interesting to hockey players. it was especially popular with families with young children. In the spring the melt water ran into the hall, causing damage. The expense of operating a second rink and the need to regrade the lawn's slope prevented the league from operating the second rink in following years.
