The Bonnie Doon Community Refugee Sponsorship Group is made up of individuals and families living in the Bonnie Doon neighbourhood who came together to sponsor a refugee family. The group was recently matched with a family of four from Syria. The family is expected to arrive in mid March.
If you would like to get involved, please contact Tracy Apoll: [email protected]. The group will be both financially assisting the family and helping them to adjust to their new life in Canada. This includes orienting them to the community, securing housing and schooling, and helping them find employment. You can also make a financial donation through the Mennonite Central Committee (tax receipts available). Thank you to the seniors who shared their stories and the volunteers who interviewed them and contributed these incredible stories. Our book will help to preserve these memories for family and friends, as well as for future generations. There are now opportunities for volunteers to visit local archives and help with research.
