Thank you to the amazing sewers in our neighbourhood who donated reusable masks to our packages for seniors. Bonnie Doon Community League purchased 6 boxes or reusable masks and we put out a request on our social media and in our August email newsletter, and our neighbourhood sewers got to work making 70 beautiful masks!

A note from Rutherford School Parent Councill:
"Rutherford Parent Council is hosting a Bottle Drive in support of Rutherford School (Bonnie Doon's elementary school) on Tuesday, September 1, from 10am – 3pm. Please drop off your donations to the auxiliary parking lot, outside the gym. If you prefer weekend or evening drop off, please drop off to 8540-84 Ave prior to Tuesday at noon. We are also collecting food donations so that we can continue to make hampers for families at the school who are experiencing food insecurity. With the Rutherfridge fruit program not running this quarter, we are especially interested in donations that families can use for packed lunches and for school snacks, as well as breakfast and dinner foods. Some ideas include: granola bars, apple sauce, boxes of cereal, oatmeal, soup, pasta, beans etc. Finally, we are collecting masks to help ensure equitable access to masks amongst students. If you have spare reusable masks, please consider dropping them off in our collection box for other students to utilise. Thank you so much for your support! If you have any questions, please email [email protected] Rutherford Parent Council" Join Bonnie Doon Corner Market on Sunday August 30th from 1 to 3pm for Bonnie Doon Back to School Bicycle Safety Day.
Bonnie Doon bike enthusiast, Peter Codizal, is organizing a Bonnie Doon Back to School Bicycle Safety Day, in collaboration with Bonnie Doon Corner Market, the Alberta Cycling Coalition, Outspokin Bike Works, and Tamarack Coffee Roasters. Meet at the Bonnie Doon Corner Market parking area (9104 88 Ave.) • for a lesson about bike safety • help registering your bike serial number • enjoying a free cup of Tamarack Roasters Coffee • entering a draw for a bicycle accessory package. Please practice physical distancing during this event. Note this is intended for children from the Bonnie Doon neighbourhood and children that attend school in this area, due to class size.🚴♀️ On Aug. 6 during a Bonnie Doon’s 'Men’s Shed’’ Bike Tour, seven of our neighbours told about several important people and places that made Bonnie Doon what it is today. We heard the stories of growing up in Bonnie Doon, two surviving and cherished heritage homes, the Papaschase First Nation, the Molstad, Donald and Connors families, the Campus St. Jean and the Dawson Huts for returning WW11 veterans along with of the interesting history of the strange misalignment of 91 street at the ‘Bulgogi’ corner due to the River Lot system of our early land surveyors.
Counting the presenters we were more than 25 altogether spanning ages from 1 to the 70’s. The Bonnie Doon’s Men’s Shed wishes to thank those who joined us on this historical bike trip and all those of our community who put up with our traffic delays on the roads and especially to those who made this trip into Bonnie Doon’s history possible: David Borgstrom, Jim Clifford, Dolores Carriere, Laura and Derek Lemmens, Mark Gordon, Margaret Russell, Jeremy Shepherd, Herb Taylor and John Taylor. We are creating a new Little Free Library and would appreciate your Help.
The box has its own storied past. Over 100 years ago the library began as a cupboard in an RCMP dormitory near Wabamun Lake. Last month, Bonnie Dooner John Taylor re-purposed the cupboard for its next chapter as a library box, adding a roof, back and door using salvaged scrap wood. We are looking for volunteers to complete these tasks:
Contact Mark at [email protected] if you want to help create this library. After it's in place, we'll invite all Bonnie Dooners to celebrate our new Little Free Library Box. Here is our box, awaiting it's new life: |
