She hopes to identify, map, and excavate one of the earliest meatpacking plants in the city (Vogel’s Meats, founded 1902) as well as a workman’s shantytown adjacent to the packing plant. She has already received a survey and excavation permit from the Archaeology Branch of the Albertan Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The permit is for work between June 20 and August 20, 2016. No trees or shrubs would be removed but some undergrowth would be cut back. As well, excavation may impact tree roots."
Yo, Bonnie Doon; what are your thoughts? A group of residents from Bonnie Doon are interested in sponsoring a refugee family from Syria. Like so many other Canadians, they have watched the refugee crisis in Syria and wanted to do something to help. They have met a couple of times to discuss sponsoring a family as a community-based project, with Bonnie Dooners coming together to offer support. The response has been enthusiastic. A representative from Mennonite Central Committee Alberta, the refugee sponsorship agreement holder, attended one of the group’s meetings to answer questions and was very supportive of the group’s plans. If you would like to get involved, please contact Tracy at [email protected]. Share this with others who may also be interested.
