Bonnie Doon Community Legue's seniors' get-together in June is scheduled for Thursday, June 15.

The National Film Board production starts at 10:30 a.m.

We are screening Finding Farley produced in 2009. A young couple, their two-year-old son and family dog set out from Calgary, by canoe, to retrace Farley Mowat's journey to the eastern Arctic decades earlier. Click here to see a sneak peak.

There is no charge to attend the film.

Lunch is serviced at 11:45. Through the generosity of a local sponsor, the cost for lunch is only $2 per person.

Learn about Bonnie Doon's Historic Past at the Farmers Market in La Cite Francophone on Sunday, June 11th.

The Community League History Book Project has hired artist, Alex Monto-Stein and she will be drawing Bonnie Doon's former Highland Park Greenhouses from 12 noon until 2 p.m.

Charles Juchli bought the Greenhouses in 1916 and when he married Augustine Accarias in 1920 they both worked together and enjoyed considerable success at the Edmonton City Market. They sold bedding plants and produce. The Juchli/Daubert family is sharing a display they made to illustrate their family history. The Juchli's lived at 8840 87 Street, beside their greenhouses. 

Another "Pop-Up" date for your calendars is Sunday, June 25th - Alex will again work at the Farmers Market at La Cite Francophone, creating line drawings of historical buildings for our community league's map project.

​This free festival takes place at Bonnie Doon park and playground, 9240-93 Street. Enjoy bouncy castles, bike tune ups, popcorn, face painting, balloon creations, and much much more! There will be a kids yoga class in the hall too.

Rutherford School is hosting a BBQ fundraiser, so plan to have lunch here! 

Bonnie Fest is an outdoor festival that was started as a way to create a bumping place where people and organizations could meet, and connect with one another. Started in 2010, Bonnie Fest continues to grow and evolve, yet remain strong to its roots within the community, and remains one of the few Bilingual festivals in the City.

Rutherford School, Bonnie Doon's elementary school, is holding a bottle drive during the festival.  Please bring a bag of empties to donate to them.  Look out for the trailer in the parking lot. 

The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta worked with the community league when establishing Iris House in the Bonnie Doon community. They say they received incredible support from Bonnie Doon, and the City of Edmonton uses our relationship as a best practice when trying to integrate a housing program into a residential community.
  
They are hosting an event called Open Minds Walk and Run in September and invite Bonnie Dooners to get involved.  "This year's Edmonton Open Minds Walk and Run gathering is about raising funds, awareness and honoring those affected by schizophrenia, their families, and caregivers.  Bring your family, children, pets, and friends! Together we will raise fund to go towards SSA's client Peer Support programs in Edmonton."

On Thursday May 18th, Seniors please join us at the Bonnie Doon Hall to watch Henry Ford's America (1977). It will be followed by Moon Man (2004).

Lunch is only $2, we appreciate the support of our community partners so we can keep our lunch cost down!

Thank you to everyone that made the Bonnie Doon Community Garage Sale on April 29 a huge success!  To the shoppers and donors, we thank you for enabling our event to take place! 

A special thank you to all the volunteers who helped price, set up and run the event, our bakers and kids who ran the lemonade stand, including: Shirley, Elizabeth, Ron, Carol, Mark, Karen, Don, Kerri, Karmen, Stephanie, Natalie, Nicola, Christiane, Marie-Danielle, Agata, Sarah, Aurora, Natasha, Wendy, Jessica, Heather, Steve, Darrel, Ivan, Stacey, Michelle, Amy, Tyson, Manishi, Shauna, Kathryn, Margaret, Anna, Trina, Maya, Julien, Clara, Andrew and Mitchell. 

A grand total of $3519 was raised, after expenses (supplies, postcards, hall cleaning, volunteer refreshments), broken down as follows: 
$214 from the Lemonade Stand,
$412 from the Hot Dog Stand
$2893 Garage Sale 

The Community League is donating all the proceeds to the Bonnie Doon Refugee Sponsorship Group this year.

After 3 years running the garage sale event, Nicola is taking a break.  We'd like to thank Nicola for all her hard work, the Community League truly appreciates her efforts.
