Bonnie Doon Community League and its hall are safe and respectful of the LGBTQ community. The Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues - EFCL has hired Hope Jubenvill as a LGBTQ+ Project Lead summer student in order to help facilitate a more inclusive and respectful environment for the LGBTQ+ community in Community Leagues as well as to address certain barriers that may prevent engagement. BDCL encourages residents to renew their membership at Supper's on Us, held every September in conjunction with Community League Day in Edmonton. Similar to the past few summers, the City of Edmonton will enforce parking restrictions in north Bonnie Doon during the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. This is not a community league initiative, however our volunteers are giving of their time to hand out passes to affected residents. In general, parking will be restricted from 92 Avenue to Connors Road, between Mill Creek Ravine and 91 Street. Obey posted parking restrictions to avoid having your vehicle ticketed and towed. See detailed info on parking restrictions.
Parking Restrictions When: Thursday, August 8 through Sunday, August 11, 2018 Where: As per City signage. Generally north of 92 Ave in Bonnie Doon Parking Permits Parking permits will be available to residents who live in the affected area. To get a permit, you must drop by Bonnie Doon Park on one of the following 2 days. This will be your only opportunity to get a permit. When: When: Thursday, August 1, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm And Wednesday August 7, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Where: Bonnie Doon Park (or in the hall if it's raining), 9240 93 Street Bring: Government-issued photo ID showing your address Volunteers will be verifying id and giving out permits (thanks Don, Karmen and Dwayne). Help spread the word and make sure your neighbors know about parking restrictions and permits during Folk Fest. If you recently moved to your home and don't yet have id showing your address, bring your current government-issued id with something like a utility bill addressed to your home in the affected area. A flyer will also be delivered to residents. Parking Passes may NOT be sold. We will give parking permits to people living in the area below. This map is not meant to show where the City will restrict parking. Bonnie Doon has once again been 'planted' with the little yellow 'Front Yards in Bloom' signs. A hardy team of volunteers surveyed the entire neighbourhood in June (yes, in the rain!), noting the gardens that made us stop and smile; gardens that were at least 25% planted. In July the teams returned to 'plant' the signs. This year we had over 125 yards nominated. We have also forwarded specific gardens to the next level of competition, in the categories of Tiny, Natural, Public and General. The Edmonton Horticultural Society is the final arbiter; decisions for City-wide winners will be made soon.
Thank you to the returning and new volunteers: Karen, Daniel & Kerri (& kiddos), Don, Bill & Claudette, Cindy, Sherry, Debbie and Élizabeth. Merci l'équipe! Keep gardening Bonnie Doon! The neighbourhood looks amazing! |
