As part of neighbourhood renewal, Bonnie Doon is getting new streetlights. Based on feedback to our survey, Bonnie Doon Community League has recommended black streetlights with a fluted pole and heritage arm. We are waiting for the City to provide us a cost on this type of decorative streetlight. Once we hear back (expected in early September), we will need to get signatures from 51% of home owners who favor black streetlights with a fluted pole and heritage arm. We will be going door to door to get signatures. We will need some extra volunteers to help out with this. If you can help out, please contact [email protected].

Would you be interested in getting involved with a new community garden in Bonnie Doon? If so Bonnie Doon Community League would like to hear from you.
A community garden is a great neighbourhood project. It gives people who are unable to have their own garden a chance to grow their own vegetables. However, the process to start a community garden can take a few months or more depending on the complexity of the project -- i.e. the size and design of the garden, and the land on where the garden is to sit. For example, there may be issues with ownership of the land. Even if it’s City land, there may be other considerations such as underground utilities that have be moved. Unused City land at 88 Ave & 92 Street has been suggested as a location for community garden in Bonnie Doon. If enough people are interested, BDCL will set up a Community Garden Committee (9-12 people are recommended). This committee would need to submit a Project Request to the City. Paul Samboryk, our Community Recreation Coordinator, has offered to help us through the process. Please contact [email protected] if you would like to get involved.
