Would you like to learn more about Bonnie Doon's past? A small group of volunteers is working on a Bonnie Doon history project We will be interviewing seniors to talk about their memories. We will be visiting the City of Edmonton archives and checking out other historical resources.
The volunteer commitment is about 25 hours for four months, from January to April 2016. Contact Frank McMahon at [email protected] or by phone at 780-465-6997 for more information. Try Ta'i Chi Chi in the new year! Bonnie Doon Community League’s T’ai Chi Chih starts up again on Monday, January 4 . Classes start at 10 a.m. The program will run until the end of February.
This “Joy of Movement” program” is taught by Tamara Zujewskyj-Brese, an accredited instructor. T'ai Chi Chih is open to everyone regardless of fitness level. Beginners are welcome. The cost is $50 for Community League members and $60 for all others. Hope you can join us. Meet your neighbours, play skating games, sip on hot chocolate.

If you don't have a League Membership, this is the perfect time to get one. A League membership is needed to use the rink. You can purchase one by contacting [email protected] The parties will be cancelled if it is minus 20 with the windchill. The rink is reserved for family skating every Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. (no sticks or pucks). The rink is located at Bonnie Doon Park, 9240 93 Street. It's easy enough to lace up a pair of skates, but what a difference a couple of lessons can make. The City of Edmonton is offering Learn to Skate session at Bonnie Doon rink, 9240 93 Street. All ages and abilities are welcome
Dates: Fridays, January 15, 22 & 29 Time: 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost: Free Fun and basic skill are the focus of this free drop-in skating program. Participants will be exposed to various skating skills while participating in stations and games. Participants will learn basic skating skills at their own pace. The program will be adapted to the age and skill level of the participants dropping into the program. Important points: Participants must have their own skates. A CSA-approved helmet is mandatory for participation. Participants under the age of 5 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Sessions will be canceled when the temperature with windchill falls below -20 Celsius. For more information, contact [email protected] It's not the pro leagues but it is a brilliant way to make some cash and play Canada's favourite sport! BDCL has openings for Rink Workers. A worker has two duties:
If you're interested, please write to [email protected]. Our rink's address is 9240 93 Street. Last year the rink hours were Monday to Friday 17:30 to 20:30, Saturday and Sunday 13:30 to 19:30. In 2015/2016 we'll use something very similar.  Join in all the fun that winter offers in South-East Edmonton! Take part in the City of Edmonton's Winter Fun Fest. Date: Saturday, December 12, 2015 Time: 11 am to 4 pm Location: Ottewell Community League, 5920 93A Avenue The Winter Fun Fest is an opportunity for families in Southeast Edmonton to spend time together in community, celebrating winter through a variety of different winter activities. Some of these activities include sleigh rides, skating, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice sculpting, a teen hockey tournament and much more. And the best part is that it's absolutely free! The Winter Fun Fest has something for all ages, and is an event that you won't want to miss! If you would like more information feel free to call or email Micah Hesman (780)-496-2703 or [email protected]  Bonnie Doon Community League has a casino on Wednesday & Thursday, March 23 & 24, 2016. To run the casino, we need 40 volunteers. This event could bring up to $70,000 into the community to support community programs such as youth soccer, the community ice rink, hall improvements and many other community league programs.
For those of you that have volunteered for casinos in the past, you will know that the work is easy and fun, you are provided with a free meal, and it gives you the opportunity to socialize with your Bonnie Doon neighbors. You can choose the shift that suits you best and you can choose the job that is the most fun for you. The venue for this casino is Casino Edmonton, 7055 Argyll Road. You can sign up for the casino online now at www.volunteersignup.org/X7Q73 We are just $15,000 away from reaching our goal of $200,000 to build a new community rink at Bonnie Doon Park. We've received grants from the City of Edmonton as well as the Government of Alberta in order to help achieve our goal. The existing rink is 60 years old and in need of replacement.
We are currently selling advertising along the rink boards as a fundraiser. If your business is interested in advertising or if you are an individual who would like to make a donation, please contact Stephanie Wold at [email protected] We are hoping to begin construction on the new rink in July of 2016. Cheer on the Edmonton Eskimos in this year's Grey Cup! Bonnie Doon Community League will be hosting a Grey Cup party and chili potluck. Bring the whole family! We'll watch the game on our GIANT 120-inch screen. Date: Sunday, November 29, 2015. Time: Doors open at 4 p.m. Location: at Bonnie Doon Hall (9240 93 Street) Cost: FREE Things you can bring: a comfortable chair (our chairs are okay), chili, snacks (or just come & watch!). Cash bar.
