Opus@12 Chamber Concert Society provides an opportunity for adult amateur musicians to perform chamber music. This type of music is written for a small group of musicians with no conductor. The free performances are informal and listeners are encouraged to chat and eat throughout.

Front Yards in Bloom

Bonnie Dooners are encouraged to recognize their neighbours' efforts to beautify our community. Send in your nominations by Thursday, June 30th. Anyone can submit a nomination (no self-nominations, please). Nominations must be for a front yard or a yard visible by everyone.

Memories of Bonnie Doon

Memories of Bonnie Doon: As you gather with your parents or grandparents this summer, ask them about their Bonnie Doon memories. They may remember calling for the bingo games at the hall, bowling with friends at Bonnie Doon Bowling Lanes, the spruce tree that was planted in your front yard on Arbor Day, or the celebration when the River Heights Grocery held its Grand Opening in 1963. A team of community members is interviewing seniors and writing short stories. These will document life in our community over the decades. Root For Trees

Join your Bonnie Doon neighbours on a tree planting event at a site in nearby east Edmonton on Saturday, July 9 from 1 until 3 p.m. The City of Edmonton's Root for Trees staff will provide planting materials, shovels and guidance. Pre-registration with the Bonnie Doon Community League is required for directions and to arrange for car-pools. To register, contact Heidi at [email protected]. June Seniors Get-Together

Our next monthly Seniors Get-Together is coming up on Thursday, June 16., Bonnie Doon Hall, 9240 93 Street. If you would like to connect with other seniors in Bonnie Doon, this is a great way to do it. We meet at 10:30 a.m. to enjoy an eclectic mix of films produced by the National Film Board. This month's film is The Spell of the Yukon (1996) which includes Robert Service poems read by Russel Crowe.

There is no charge for the films. Lunch (a cost of $2 will be served promptly at 11:30 a.m.

Seniors are invited to mark their calendars for get-togethers on Thursday, July 28 and August 25th.

Host a Block Party

The beautiful weather and extra hours of sunshine make summer the ideal season to organize a block party. Outdoor events like picnics, potlucks and barbecues are a fun way to get to know your neighbours; they also help prevent crime and increase neighbourhood safety. The City recently waived the $100 fee to residents organizing a block party. For more information on organizing a block party, visit the City of Edmonton's website.

Mill Creek Water Quality Study

The City of Edmonton is considering various options to help improve water quality in Mill Creek. In order to prioritize water quality improvement projects in Mill Creek Ravine, project staff need feedback from residents to get a clearer picture of what amenities they value most in Mill Creek Ravine Park.

BDCL is looking for a student, age 15 to 30, who has been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and who intends to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year. This student must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Foreign students are not eligible.

The wage rate is $18.00/hour for a 30 hour week. Here is the job description...

Community Archives Project 8 week project from mid-May to mid-July.

Locate and organize BDCL archival records. Set aside duplicates and ephemeral material.
Prepare a list of past-presidents and a chronological list of major projects including project leaders.
Select photographs to accompany records and identify buildings, individuals and events by consulting with seniors in our community.
Prepare a short report to accompany lists, acknowledging sources of records and gaps in the collection.
Prepare records to deposit in the City of Edmonton Archives.
Assist with Memories of Bonnie Doon project: help with monthly seniors program/lunches; conduct research, e.g. locate aerial photographs and insurance maps; photocopy.

Applicants are asked to demonstrate how their prior work experience or courses relate to our project. Students without direct experience will be considered. Only applications that are considered will be contacted. A vehicle or drivers license is not required.
