This past Wednesday, April 22nd, I dropped a note and an identical blank ‘thank you’ card off at every residence (40 cards) on our block. I asked residents to color the card, add comments and notes of appreciation for our Canada Post Letter Carrier, Jen. I then asked that they place the cards late Thursday or very early Friday, in their respective mail box in a certain manner so Jen would know the card was for her. (See picture). Many did. Letter carriers are often not given mention when shout outs are extended to essential workers. On Monday, April 27th, I ran into Jen on my morning walk... she asked if I was the one who organized this surprise. Not knowing if any of my neighbors might have fessed up, I admitted this was indeed my initiative. She thanked me and what truly touched me was her parting comment. “Friday was my best day at work in 18 years!”
It was a wake-up call for me …how a little gesture can make a big difference to one person and an entire street!
Cheers & stay well!
