The detailed design & construction of the Valley Line LRT has the potential to create challenges to life in Bonnie Doon. The BDCL has seats at the table reserved by the City to discuss these challenges. The City writes:
As the City prepares to move forward with the selection of a contractor to complete the detailed design and construction of the Valley Line LRT project, we are also proceeding with the establishment of a series of five Citizen Working Groups. These groups will be a major method for the City to maintain an ongoing dialogue with communities along the alignment during procurement, detailed design and construction of the Valley Line.
The intention is to have these neighbourhood-based groups represent a cross-section of their respective communities. The frequency, times and duration of meetings will be flexible to meet the needs of members, who will be expected to understand and share local knowledge and interests, support the overall best interests of the community, exhibit mutual respect and trust, and treat participation as a commitment. It is hoped that, through their regular personal interactions, group members will also convey information back to their communities. With this in mind, we are seeking appointments from community leagues and other community-based organizations, with additional at-large candidates to fill the remaining seats by selection from amongst themselves.
The purpose of this email is to formally invite the Bonnie Doon Community to assign two representatives to sit on the Citizen Working Group for the 85/83 Street Corridor Zone and to consider assigning one representative to the Citizen Working Group for the River Valley Zone. The boundaries and proposed group composition for these zones are shown in the attached document. We are hoping to have all group members identified and begin initial meetings this spring.
