You may read Colin's speech in full here. Colin is sharing some information below about Edmonton Radial Railway Society and the work they do to restore Edmonton's street cars.
Membership in the Edmonton Radial Railway Society is $20 per year. The appplication form is on the web site Edmonton Radial Railway Society, and click on " Join or donate". Work sessions take place at the Fort Edmonton Park Car Barn on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the AM and at Strathcona Car Barn Tuesdays and Thursdays in the AM and during the operating season (May through October on Saturdays). Strathcona Car Barn is at the rear of the Old Strathcona Market building on Gateway Boulevard and 84 Avenue. It is also the terminal for the High Level Bridge car line.
Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month (except July and August) at 7:30 PM in the room above the Ukrainian Book Store in Fort Edmonton Park. Next meeting is April 10. Carpentry, painting, metal work, welding, window fitting, pipefitting, electrical work, archives and library work, museum guiding, computer work, marketing, upholstering, air brake maintenance, track maintenance, car cleaning, training as a motorman are all the types of work we do. Several of our members have professional skills in these areas and are pleased to be able to supervise the greater part of our work force who do not have specialized skills in these areas but are willing to help with the building and repairing. All of our group are volunteers. We adhere to Occupational Health and Safety procedures and to a strict code of operating rules.
Streetcars begin scheduled public service on the High Level Bridge on Friday May 18, 2018 and operate daily until the Labour Day Monday when we begin Friday, Saturday and Sunday service only until Thanksgiving Monday. At that time we close for the season. Round Trip Fare is $6. Streetcar service begins in Fort Edmonton Park on the May long weekend.
We also operate charter services in Fort Edmonton Park and on the High Level Bridge.
We have a small Edmonton streetcar history museum at the Strathcona Car Barn which is open to the public Saturdays 10 AM until 2 PM during the operating season. The museum is staffed by a volunteer guide or interpreter when open to the public. It includes photos, videos, maps, models, ephemera and small three-dimensional items. There is no fee for viewing the museum. Fare box donations are appreciated.
