FYiB recognizes our friends and neighbours' efforts to create more beautiful communities
FYiB was founded in 1999 by the Edmonton Horticultural Society, Canada Post, and the City of Edmonton to celebrate attractive front yards in Edmonton.
Edmonton's Front Yards in Bloom is now the largest program of its kind in Canada. Last year Bonnie Doon had over 100 gardens nominated in the various categories. Our neighbourhood was happily covered with the little yellow signs!
- Anyone can nominate a front yard here (May 20-June 30), but you can't nominate your own
- There are multiple categories: general, edible, tiny, container, natural, public
- Yards must contain at least 25% non-turf plantings to be eligible.
Although anyone can nominate a garden, Bonnie Doon has an active team that gets together to make sure that every possible garden is considered. We always have room for more residents to join.
If you are interested and are available to walk the neighbourhood in late June, please contact Karen Doucet at [email protected]. You might meet some new neighbours and probably see a corner of Bonnie Doon that you don’t regularly visit!
