By now you may have received a number of emails from organizations eager to keep you on their email lists. Recent federal legislation (CASL) requires that organizations like your local community league have your explicit consent in order that they may lawfully send emails to you. We moved to an online tool called MailChimp in February, 2012, to manage our bulk emails. The 226 email addresses we entered to MailChimp at that time were gathered from years of manual league membership sales. Earlier today we sent emails to those addresses, asking their owners to consent to receiving our emails.
If your email address entered our system after February, 2012, then you should have automatically received an email from MailChimp, confirming your interest in receiving our emails. That email is sent as soon as we enter you to our system. Once you click on the confirmation link within that email you begin to receive our news emails. In that case we believe we need no further confirmation from you that you want to receive our news emails.
To recap: the 226 legacy email addresses (collected from older systems) should have received an email today asking for explicit consent to allow us to send our news emails. The remaining 131 addresses in our MailChimp list will continue to receive our emails without interruption.
