Dear Community Member,
My name is Natalie Shykoluk and I am a student in Arts and Cultural Management at MacEwan University. Under the supervision of Rose Ginther, Chair, Arts and Cultural Management, I have undertaken an independent study project that will examine the role that Edmonton’s community leagues play in facilitating engagement in arts and culture. Research has shown that engagement in the arts at a community level helps to bring people together and creates a sense of belonging, thereby increasing a community’s overall level of health. Engagement in arts and culture create a positive impact on community-level social determinants of health, such as strengthening social networks, drawing on a shared culture and/or history, and improving the built environment.
In order to better understand how community leagues facilitate arts and cultural engagement on a community and municipal level, I would like to ask for your feedback by way of a short electronic survey. Please note that there is an opportunity to include your written comments and/or expand on your survey answers at the end of the survey. Survey results will be available in late Spring 2013.
