What is Your Opinion re Decorative Streetlights?

Our online survey is ready & waiting for you to express your preference re Bonnie Doon's new Streetlights, to be installed from 2015 through 2017. The choice of streetlights can affect our property values and our property taxes, so please complete the survey.

Good afternoon!

Very excited about the proposed redevelopment in Bonnie Doon. As a homeowner in the community, I hope that the new street lights will be something artistic and aesthetically pleasing, to make up for all the ugly, plastic duplexes that are now popping up all over the area (they look as if they were designed by McDonalds...yuk!).

Filled out the survey, and I understand that it's been presented as an all or nothing proposition, but I think it's a missed opportunity. If at all possible I think the best option would be fluted, decorative lights along the 'historic' or 'interest' areas (around the Faculte, and 88 ave, maybe 91 st / 92 st and and around the hall), with just the same colour carried through the rest of the neighbourhood. Especially, with the new Cite' and farmers market and business assoc. it is an opportunity to create an identity but seems a bit extravagant and pretentious to carry it through the whole neighbourhood. I would love to see the league join forces with the Faculte and businesses to advocate City Council and the Office of Great Neighbourhoods to be a little more flexible to meet reasonable requests, rather then all or nothing. As a homeowner, I would be willing to pitch in a little more to the overall cost of the poles if it allowed us to upgrade in some of these key areas.

Thanks Heather. That's a really interesting idea to have decorative lights in the areas around the Faculte etc. Unfortunately, the Decorative Streetlight program is quite rigid .. one type of streetlight for the entire neighbourhood.
